Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy

Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy also known as the Silver Shadow Dancers is one of St. Lucia’s leading Cultural youth organizations designed to create avenues for talented youth in the performing arts, mainly dance, theatre Arts, Pageantry and youth development programs in the Arts.

This organization is dedicated to instilling discipline among our youth and promoting the talents of young St. Lucians. Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy was established in 1991, and was founded by Mr. Barry George who is presently the Leader and Artistic Director.

Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy is a professional after school arts program, which gives training in the areas of Traditional Dance, Modern Dance, Contemporary dance, Afro-Caribbean Dance, Hip Hop and Theatre Arts Training which is in keeping with the CXC theatre Arts Syllabus.

Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy with its Motto: “A New Wave in the Performing Arts” is focused on the following Objectives:

1. To create avenues for talented youth in the performing arts.

2. To promote awareness of the Arts and Culture in St. Lucia.

3. To nurture natural talents into a potent resource.

4. To promote St. Lucia as a tourism destination using the arts.

5. To educate through the medium of the performing arts.

6. To promote cultural exchanges locally, regionally and internationally.

9. To promote healthy lifestyles.

Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy is part of an artistic community that recognizes the importance of artistic experience in the personal and cultural growth of young people, and the contribution that these people make to the whole community both now and into the future. Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy rehearsal studio is currently located in the old Girls Vocational School building on the Marian Home compound in Leslie land, Castries.

Silver Shadow has been providing opportunities for young people to develop and participate in performing arts activities under the supervision of experienced professionals. This has enabled hundreds of young people to experience music, dance, theatre, visual arts and pageantry within a safe and supportive environment.

The Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy offers classes and workshops to adults and children in the Saint Lucian community. Our classes provide students with an introduction to dance and offer beginners and professionals a means of artistic expression. Through these programs, we identify and develop new dance performers and choreographers and thus further enhance the artistic talent in Saint Lucia.

The Academy consists of 5 major dance classes, they are:

• The Kids Dance Company (Ages 7 to 12)
• Teens Dance Company C ( Ages 12 to 15) Beginners
• Teens Dance Company B ( Ages 12 to 15) Advance Beginners
• Teens Dance Company A ( Ages 14 to 17) Intermediate Level
• Senior Main Dance Company B ( Ages 16 to 21) Advance level only
• Senior Main Dance Company A ( Ages 18 to 30) Advance level only
• Adult Dance & Fitness Program all levels ( 18 and up)

Over the past 25 years, Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy has developed into a nationally acclaimed dance company by producing and presenting performances of the highest caliber to arts patrons across the country. The Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy strives to be an artistic force by creating innovative and emotional performances for audiences in Saint Lucia and around the nation. The company’s original dance pieces break through boundaries of traditional choreography and offer audiences an exciting experience.

The Silver Shadow dancers have represented St. Lucia regionally and internationally at a number of cultural exchanges, 2005 World Youth Festival in Venezuela, 2008 Carifesta X in Guyana, Martinique and Guadeloupe for French exchanges. The 2011 Bele Festival in Tobago, Rhythm and Motion Dance Festival in Trinidad, Universal Dance exchange In Barbados, 2013 Carifesta 11 in Suriname as Part of the St. Lucia Dance Team and Carifesta 12 in Haiti 2015. Silver Shadow also represented St. Lucia in Chicago at a St. Lucia Destination Trade Expo hosted by the St. Lucia Tourist Board. Locally the Group plays a major role in all of St. Lucia’s cultural events, such as Independence, St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, the National Carnival, Jounen Kweyol and also plays a major role in supplying entertainment for some of St. Lucia’s Leading Hotels and special events where the company can promote St .Lucia’s rich culture and traditions.

Silver Shadow has received a number of national awards in the performing arts category including National awards for traditional dance,” The Masquerade”, National Award for modern dance and dance choreography, while the founder Barry George received the M&C Fine Arts individual award for the performing arts in 2008.

Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy is fully dedicated to the enrichment of the cultural landscape and artistic reputation of Saint Lucia. It is important to us to sustain a group of performance artists so that we can fully dedicate ourselves to our mission.

Silver Shadow continues to play an important role in the promotion of youth in the arts, provides job opportunities for members in the tourism sector, promotes the arts through community workshops island-wide and assists various communities in establishing dance groups.

Our Classes

(7 – 12 years)

Admissions

-No auditions required
-Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis
-Standard class does not exceed 20 students

Accepted students must pay a monthly membership fee of $75

(Beginners/Intermediate) 12 – 15 years

-All new students have a 2 month probation period before full membership

General Admissions

  • 1. Admission is open to all interested children, teenagers and adults who are interested in the performing arts.
  • 2. Auditions and a personal interview may apply depending on what class a student/member is enrolled in.
  • 3. All prospective members will be on one-month probation after being selected.
  • 4. All accepted students will pay a monthly membership fee of $75 dollars.
  • 5. All payments should be made at the beginning of the first class in every month.
